About this scene
The picture shows the newborn Jesus wrapped snugly and asleep in a manger full of straw, with stars overhead and a lamb resting on either side. The Gospel of Luke tells us Mary wrapped her baby in cloths and laid him in a manger because there was no room at the inn; the sleeping lambs and the starry sky are the illustrator’s way of setting a quiet night-time scene.
Talk about it
- Who is resting in the manger?
- What animals can you find in the picture?
Printing tips
- Print on US Letter paper. For A4, choose “Fit to page” in your print dialog.
- Print one-sided on ordinary paper. Crayons and colored pencils work well.
- Put a spare sheet underneath if your child is using markers.
- The PDF keeps its “free sample” footer so copies stay clearly marked as free to share.
